NTSA New Speed Camera Limits, Camera Locations, Roads and Penalties
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has intensified the enforcement of speed limits across major highways and urban roads through the deployment of automated speed cameras. The move is part of a broader road safety strategy aimed at reducing accidents, fatalities, and reckless driving, particularly in high-traffic areas within and around Nairobi.
According to NTSA, the speed cameras are operational around the clock and are designed to automatically detect vehicles exceeding prescribed speed limits. Motorists found violating the limits are issued with fines through the NTSA digital system without the need for roadside police intervention.
Purpose of the Enforcement
NTSA says the new system seeks to improve road safety by encouraging responsible driving, reducing human interference in traffic enforcement, and ensuring transparency in the issuance of traffic fines. Overspeeding remains one of the leading causes of road crashes in Kenya, especially on highways and bypasses.

Southern Bypass

How the Speed Camera System Works
The automated cameras capture speeding vehicles in real time. Once a violation is recorded, the registered vehicle owner receives a notification detailing the offence and applicable fine. Payments are processed through NTSA’s digital platforms, ensuring efficiency and accountability.
Penalties and Compliance
Motorists exceeding the set limits face fines based on the severity of the offence, with repeat offenders subject to stiffer penalties. NTSA has warned that ignorance of speed limits will not be accepted as an excuse, urging drivers to observe road signage at all times.
