Here is Ruto’s Major Kenya Defence Forces Promotions, Postings and Appointments
The Ministry of Defence has announced a series of senior promotions, postings and appointments within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), following recommendations by the Defence Council.
In a statement released on 5 June 2026, President William Samoei Ruto, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, confirmed key leadership changes across the Kenya Army and Kenya Air Force.
New Senior Appointments
Major General John Maiso Nkoimo has been appointed Deputy Commander of the Kenya Army. He takes over from Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan, who has proceeded on retirement. Prior to this appointment, Maj Gen Nkoimo served as the General Officer Commanding Central Command.
At the Kenya Air Force, Brigadier Mohamed Salah Farah has been appointed Deputy Air Force Commander. He previously served as the Base Commander at Laikipia Air Base.
Promotions to Major General
The President also promoted Brigadier William Kamoiro to the rank of Major General and appointed him General Officer Commanding Central Command. In addition, Brigadier Peter Kipketer Limo was promoted to Major General and appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics at Defence Headquarters. He replaces Major General Edward Rugendo, who has been appointed Managing Director of the Defence Forces Welfare Services.
Extension of Kenya Navy Commander’s Tenure
On the advice of the Defence Council chaired by Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, the President extended the tenure of service for Commander Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Owuor Otieno, by one year.
Kenya Army Promotions
Several officers in the Kenya Army were promoted and appointed to new roles:
- Brigadier (Dr) Francis Njoroge Kuria was promoted to Major General and appointed Director of Medical Services.
- Colonel Mark Joseph Awala was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Operations at Kenya Army Headquarters.
- Colonel Makonani Balata was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commander, Langata Garrison.
- Colonel Asma Diramo Kofa was promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Provost at the Directorate of Oversight, Compliance and Accountability.
