Why did Michael Joseph leave Safaricom as a broad of director in the most successful telecommunication company in Kenya?.

The founding CEO of Safaricom, Michael Joseph has resigned as a director in the board of Safaricom PLC, with effect from August 1, 2023.

As the founding CEO of Safaricom Limited, Michael steered the company from a subscriber of less than 18,000 back in 2000 to over 17 million subscribers by his retirement in November 2010. This made Safaricom the most successful and fastest growing company in East Africa.

Michael Joseph has played an important role in the success of Safaricom including serving in various capacities within the company since 2000 including serving as the company’s General Manager, twice as the Chief Executive Officer, Director and as well as Chairman of the Board.

It is important to note that he has also served as a member and Chairman of various committees of the Board.

Also, together with the late Bob Collymore, the two launched M-PESA Foundation Academy.

Why Did Michael Joseph Leave Safaricom?

According to the Safaricom Boad, “Michael leaves the Board to focus on other ventures in his life including continuing his role as Chairman of Kenya Airways and being a director in various organizations. He will continue to pursue his passions in matters of conservation and community service,”.
